Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a rapidly changing world which has seen an expansion in web-based technology that creates communities, in which people come together to collaborate, learn and build knowledge. This is known as Web 2.0 and is easily characterised by social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace.
Why consider Web 2.0 for education?
Social software tools provide a platform for education to engage and empower students/learners in a participatory framework of learning. They support three ingredients or activities that characterise learner-centred instruction:
support for conversational interaction;
support for social feedback; and
support for social networks and relationships between people.
